Delivering a KS3 Road Safety Programme Across Warwickshire

In partnership with Warwickshire County Council, The Riot Act delivered "What You Gonna Do?", a bespoke Theatre in Education programme designed to help Year 9 students make safer decisions around roads. Combining live performance with interactive workshops, the programme explored distraction, peer pressure, mobile phone use and the importance of making positive choices when travelling independently.

Project Overview

  • Client: Warwickshire County Council

  • Programme: What You Gonna Do?

  • Audience: Year 9 Students

  • Schools Reached: 16

  • Students Reached: 2,723

  • Teachers Reached: 32

  • Delivery Period: December 2024 – February 2025

The Challenge

Warwickshire County Council wanted to engage Year 9 students with the realities of road safety through a programme that went beyond simply teaching the Highway Code. The project focused on the influence of peer pressure, distraction from mobile phones and headphones, and encouraging young people to recognise when they should challenge risky behaviour amongst their friends.

Our Solution

We designed and delivered a bespoke Theatre in Education programme combining live performance, interactive discussion and behaviour change techniques. Through relatable characters and realistic scenarios, students explored the consequences of their decisions and were encouraged to think critically about the choices they make around roads and public transport.

The Results

  • 🎭 100% Teacher Satisfaction

  • 🙌 97% Teachers said students were engaged

  • 🎯 100% Teachers felt the programme was pitched appropriately

  • 🧠 +12% Increase in students who strongly agreed they are less aware of hazards when walking near roads with friends

“Just a quick note of thanks for the fantastic visit from The Riot Act today. Josh, Johnny and Sadie were all brilliant, and the pupils responded to them really well. We look forward to welcoming your team back in a future year"
