Delivering a KS1 Road Safety Programme Across Doncaster

In partnership with City of Doncaster Council, The Riot Act delivered "Muffin Don't Get Squished", an engaging Theatre in Education programme designed to introduce Year 1 pupils to the fundamentals of road safety. Through memorable characters, music, puppetry and audience participation, the programme taught children the importance of stopping, looking and listening before crossing the road. Delivered across 90 primary schools, the programme combined puppetry, activities and workshops to educate a Y1 audience on how to stay safe by the road.

The Challenge

City of Doncaster Council wanted to deliver an engaging road safety intervention for Year 1 pupils that introduced key road crossing behaviours in a fun, memorable and age-appropriate way. The aim was to help children develop safe habits before they became more independent around roads.

Our Solution

We designed and delivered "Muffin Don't Get Squished", a Theatre in Education performance combining live acting, puppetry, music and audience interaction. Through memorable characters and repetition, pupils learned the Green Cross Code and were encouraged to remember the simple message: Stop, Look and Listen.
